Dengue
Dengue fever is an illness spread by the bite of mosquitos infected with one of the dengue viruses. Symptoms are usually flu-like but can worsen to severe dengue (dengue hemorrhagic fever), a life-threatening condition.
IMPORTANT: The dengue vaccine is only for people who have had dengue before. This is because people who have never had dengue before may be at risk of more severe illness if they get infected after having the vaccine. There is currently no evidence to show that the vaccine is safe for people who have never had dengue, and so it is not recommended in these cases.

Other information
If you're not sure whether you've had dengue before, you can have a blood test to check for past exposure - please enquire for pricing.
If you haven’t had dengue but still want the vaccine, you must book a travel consultation with one of our GPs to discuss the risks and benefits of having the vaccine. Giving the vaccine would not be in line with national guidelines, and therefore it is up to the GP to decide whether they are willing to give it. If the GP is not comfortable giving the vaccine, it will not be offered.
