Meningococcal C & Hib

Meningococcal disease is a name for any infection caused by bacteria called Neisseria meningitidis. It most commonly presents as Meningitis, sepsis and septicaemia (blood poisoning) which are very serious, potentially life-threatening illnesses.

This vaccine protects against bacteria called “Neisseria meningitidis" group C (MenC) and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib).

Children aged 2 months up to 2 years.

Usually 1 dose

- This vaccine is usually given as part of the NHS infant vaccine schedule at 1 year of age following 3 previous doses of Hib as part of the 5in1 or 6in1 vaccine.

How is it given?

This is an injection in the upper arm or thigh.

Other information

There are no data in adults above 50 years of age. These patients should ask their doctor to advise whether it is beneficial to have the vaccine.
