Shingles

Shingles (herpes zoster) is caused by the reactivation of varicella zoster virus (that causes Chicken pox), generally years or decades later. It can cause people to feel generally unwell and can cause symptoms including abnormal skin sensations and pain in the affected area, headache, fever and may result in a persistent pain at the site, known as post herpetic neuralgia.

Who can have this vaccine?

Adults aged 50+.
Adults aged 18+ at increased risk of shingles.

Doses required

2 doses

The second dose should be 2-6 months after the first.

This is an injection in the upper arm.
