About weight-loss medication
How does the medication help me lose weight?
Weight loss can be achieved by eating the right foods in the appropriate quantities and being suitably active. The medication helps this by supressing your appetite so you feel fuller and experience fewer food cravings, thus find it easier to stick to a weight-reducing diet. In time, the aim is that you achieve a healthier weight and develop healthier diet and exercise habits that you can sustain long after discontinuing the medication.
Who is weight-loss medication suitable for?
The weight loss medication is authorised for adult patients with a BMI of 30 or more, as well as those with a BMI between 27-30 who also have weight-related health problems such as prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart problems. Weight loss medications are not suitable if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant.
All patients must be assessed by the doctor who will decide if they are suitable for treatment. The doctor will review your medical history, measure your weight, height, body composition and vital signs such as blood pressure, and take a blood test to check for any underlying health conditions. Only once it has been determined there are no contraindications for treatment will our doctors prescribe the medication.
What is the medication?
We offer a long-acting dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist (Mounjaro injections), and GLP-1 receptor agonist medications - Wegovy injection, Wegovy pill, Foundayo pill.
How do I take the medication?
Weight loss injections are taken once a week. You can administer the injection yourself, and your doctor will show you how during your first appointment.
Weight loss pills (tablets) are taken once a day. The Wegovy pill must be taken at the same time each day, on an empty stomach, and after taking the tablet, you should wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking any other oral medication. The Foundayo pill is less restrictive, and can be taken with or without food and has no fasting requirements.

Your first 12 weeks (stage 1)
During your first 12 weeks, you'll see your GP every four weeks (after each pen or course of tablets) for ongoing support, dose adjustments and close monitoring of your progress and health. Your appointments will take place at weeks 0, 4, 8 and 12.
You'll start on the lowest dose of medication, which may be increased gradually depending on your progress, how you're feeling and any side effects.
A blood test will be repeated at week 12 to ensure your treatment continues to be safe and appropriate before you move on to the next phase of your programme.

I can’t recommend The Maxwell Practice highly enough. From the very first appointment, I felt genuinely welcomed and listened to. The team took the time to understand my goals and made me feel supported every step of my weight loss journey. Their compassionate, professional approach gave me the confidence and motivation I needed, and I never felt judged or rushed. I’m so grateful for the care I’ve received.
Jo M.
The best decision I made. I really needed the motivation, and wanted to be under the care of a medical doctor so that I felt safe and supported.
Thank you!
