Andropause - is it the male menopause?

Women experience hormonal changes in the time leading up to menopause, and these hormonal changes can cause significant symptoms.

Men can also experience the impact of hormone changes. Testosterone levels naturally reduce in men as they age, usually at a steady, slow rate.  Some men develop a testosterone deficiency which can cause symptoms such as irritability, weight gain, low sex drive and impaired sexual function, problems sleeping, depression, fatigue and loss of strength.  This is referred to as Andropause and sometimes termed the “male menopause”.

All these symptoms could be caused by other factors too, so it is important to identify and address the cause. A simple blood test can measure testosterone to see if this is the cause of symptoms and whether treatment might be of benefit.
